Katie Holmes looked comfortable in a loose-fitting, casual black slip dress when in New York City on Wednesday.

The Dawson's Creek actress, 45, slipped the dress over a red camisole and paired it with royal blue crushed velvet Mary Jane shoes.

Her hair was loose, not styled, and she wore minimal makeup on her weekday outing.

Katie carried a black handbag and appeared to be deep in thought as she walked the streets of Manhattan while she picked up a coffee.

The outing comes after her daughter Suri Cruise, whom she shares with 61-year-old ex Tom Cruise, turned 18-years-old.

Katie has been in the spotlight ever since she started dating Cruise in 2005.

But for the busy actress, director and producer, her life is about the work that drives her – and of course, parenting Suri.

She's also all about lifting women up and called out trolls who criticized her 2022 bustier over jeans look that created such a furor and had at least one person calling for her death, per Glamour. 

'Come on, women, let's hold each other up here,' she told the outlet last year.

'Let's look a little bit past what we're wearing. That's our duty amongst each other. I feel like the woman's journey is deeper.'

Back in her early Dawson's Creek days, Katie wasn't a global celebrity with one of the most famous men in the universe as her ex-husband.

She was simply Katie from Ohio, taking a chance on this new teen soap opera on what was a brand new network at the time - the WB.

'When we were doing Dawson's Creek and it was successful, I remember really wanting to grow as an actor and not just do things to capitalize on the moment,' Holmes said. 'I wanted to learn from other people.

'I was just 18 when we started, and I really appreciated the writing because I felt like, as a teenager, I had so many different feelings, trying to go from being a girl to a woman,' Katie explained.

'And I felt like [creator Kevin Williamson] had this way of putting words to those feelings. So for me, playing that role, I was like, “Oh, that’s what that means. Oh, I get that.” I loved doing it. It was a really fun, profound experience.'

After her highly publicized divorce from Cruise in 2012, Katie and Suri moved to New York City and have been there ever since. 

In her conversation with Glamour she talked about how much she loves the Big Apple and what it is like living there.

'You can meet so many people from different neighborhoods and find that sense of friendship and community, and people can help you out. It’s an unpredictable way of living when you’re in this city,' she gushed.
